Jessica Alba: Why I Lied About My Sexuality

August 2024 · 2 minute read

May 23, 2014 — -- In a candid interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jessica Alba said her character for "Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" doesn't have too much in common with her as a "prude" mother of two.

But what she does have in common with Nancy Callahan is that she takes control of her future in "Sin City."

"I wanted her to transition from being a victim to being someone who’s in control of her own story," she said.

Alba, 33, went further in explaining that she thinks her long, successful career in Hollywood has been done the right way.

In fact, Alba has always been a bit confused about being labeled a sex symbol and that led to her having to lie to people.

"I didn’t have a lot of experience, so at first it was all kinds of weird,” she revealed. "I'm kind of a prude, and I didn't really understand. They would always ask me provocative questions about my sexuality, my this or that. Sometimes I would lie and say something that wasn't true to make myself seem more interesting than I was."

Even dressing the part was new to a young Alba.

"I didn’t even know how to walk in heels until I went to the Golden Globes for the first time," she said.
