The Michael Sam reality show has been indefinitely placed on hold.

The former Missouri defensive end and SEC Defensive Player of the Year became the first openly gay player drafted by the NFL this month.

A few days ago, he announced that he had signed on for a series with OWN that would chronicle his journey to making the team.

Now, following an admission by the St. Louis Rams that they were unaware of Sam’s deal with OWN prior to choosing him and were afraid he could become a “distraction,” Sam has pulled out of the series.

“After today’s meeting with the Rams, we collectively feel it is best to postpone the project,” Sam’s agent said in a statement. “This will allow for Michael to have a total focus on football, and will ensure no distractions to his teammates.

“Everybody involved remains committed to this project and understands its historical importance as well as its positive message.”
